If you love steam trains then this is the place to visit as they have a great selection to see and ride on. Great for the kids to see the restoration process and ride on the carriage that the queen was in all those years ago. Although that carriage is in the display shed you can still go in it and experience the 1st class carriage. There is also a train story shed you can take the children in to to explain the process of how the isle of Wight heritage company has been awarded for there continued efforts to keep the steam trains going. Really nice to go you could make a day of it. And when you done with riding up and down the tracks to trains stations as this all comes part of the price. You can hope off and walk to the Bird if prey sanctuary where you can see 2 display of various Bird of prey, like barn owls, kites, and VULTURE? Who will hope on to you park bench and probably steal your sandwiches you have been warned.. the display is hosted via a P.A system and its very informative.. well worth going to.
Really interesting museum and lovely train ride, cafe very good, handy gift shop. So many different things to do and look at. Staff all extremely knowledgeable and informative. Even taken to look in the signal box as I was reminiscing about seeing similar set up in 1960s. Couldn't thank everyone enough for all their help, including helping me dispose of a small amount of my late husband's ashes. Never fails to be something new to see regardless of how often I have been
Great place we enjoyed the train ride and the museum. The children enjoyed the falcon display very much and playing on the play ground. It's a nice play for a family day out and there is a big open space and tables for a picnic. There is also a restaurant so food can get bought there with Isle of Wight ice-cream. The shop had good toys for the kids and great soveneirs for adults at reasonable prices. Enjoyed our time at the steam railway.
Having grown up in Havenstreet I have watched this place grow into a wonderful place to visit. The round trip on the steam train takes around an hour, through woodland and beautiful countryside. The 'train story' museum takes you through the history of how trains on the Isle of Wight and also house's carriages that have fantastically restored as well as those awaiting to be bought back to life.There is also a lovely woodland walk,play area and Granny winters cafe.There are many theme weekends held throughout the year, when the station is bought to life by many colourful characters, as well as a steam fair held every August bank holiday, which is a must!
Beautiful and delightful. Steam railways are a dying breed and this is one is just remarkable. Short? Yes. Fun and relaxing? Oh yes. Lovely little journey across the country with a nice stop off at Haven Street for refreshments and little history on the place. Definitely worth the money and one must-do activity while you're in the Isle of Wight
